Ever wonder why we are considered a “low power” station?

Low power is a special class of radio that is inherently noncommercial and intended to come out of and be responsive to a specific community. WAYO embodies the spirit of low power - we’re a totally grassroots-funded station with 140 volunteers from the Rochester area, and we provide a platform for regional creativity where community members can share their art, music, writing, and more.

The use of the term "low power" helps connect us to the recent nationwide movement of low power stations around the United States. Read more about the FCC’s addition of Low Power FM radio licenses on the Prometheus Project website, and more about Low power radio on the FCC site.
