  • The Swingin' Surf Rock Shindig - Episode 29 "WITW 15: Greece" Aired: Thursday, May 2, 2024

With nearly 10,000 miles of coastline and almost 6,000 islands and inlets (only 200 of which are inhabited), the un-initiated might expect Greece to have a bustling surf scene but the crystal clear waters of the Mediterranean are too sheltered from wind and water exchange to produce consistent waves. That's not to say you can't catch the occasional ridable wave but you'll need a big break (no pun intended) If the surfing gods smile upon you (we're looking at you Poseidon) you might find yourself with a day or two of beautiful swells.

  • The Swingin' Surf Rock Shindig - Episode 28 "WITW 14: Georgia" Aired: Thursday, April 25, 2024

We've got a real peach of a set ahead. The wayout mobile takes us from the "Empire State" to the "Empire State of the South". Georgia might not be as well known for surfing as it's neighbors to the north (South Carolina) and South (Florida) but it has a unique appeal all it's own. If the last of the 13 original colonies doesn't  impress you with its surf scene, it's surf bands won't let you down. From 60's bands like St.

  • The Swingin' Surf Rock Shindig - Episode 27 "WITW 13: North Carolina" Aired: Thursday, April 18, 2024

The outer banks offer up the largest waves on the East Coast of the United States, the same conditions which have caused nearly 3,000 shipwrecks and earned the area it's nickname; "The Graveyard of the Atlantic" create a surfer's paradise. Cape Hatteras in particular is synonymous with big swells but is only one of the surfing hot spots along the 322 miles of North Carolina Coastline. The amazing bands who dot South Carolina, from the Crystal Coast to the Appalachian Mountains will have you doing the Carolina Shag in no time.

  • The Swingin' Surf Rock Shindig - Episode 26 "Totality Eclipsed" Aired: Thursday, April 11, 2024

The Sun and Moon both play important roles for surfing and surf music, while sunny beaches may be more closely associated with the culture, the moon and it's effect on the tides are equally important in creating the conditions for perfect waves.

  • The Swingin' Surf Rock Shindig - Episode 25 "WITW 12: Australia" Aired: Thursday, April 4, 2024

We have a real ripper of a show in store. The Wayout mobile takes us 10,277 miles from Rochester, NY to the land down under, but that's not even one mile for each of the nearly 11,000 beaches on the shores of Australia. It's truly a surfers' Mecca and the sport and music are deeply woven into the fabric of life in the world's 6th largest country on the world's smallest continent.

  • The Swingin' Surf Rock Shindig - Episode 24 "WIT 2: 1995" Aired: Thursday, March 28, 2024

Travel back in time with me once again, this time to the year 1995; a banner year for the resurgence of surf music. It's likely no coincidence that Pulp Fiction was released only one year earlier (is it crazy that I've never seen it?). For me personally, I was 18 years old and just graduating High School. Surf music had been in my life since childhood thanks to my parents record collection and the Beach movies of Frankie Avalon and Annette Funicello.

  • The Swingin' Surf Rock Shindig - Episode 23 "WITW 11: New England" Aired: Thursday, March 21, 2024

In this weeks episode we explore the surf and instro of New England and it's sure to be a real "pissah"! The 5 states that border the Atlantic Ocean (Connecticut, Rhode Island, Massachusetts, New Hampshire and Maine) offer up some daunting waves and if you aren't careful you might get "stoved". Under the right conditions, you might even catch a wave in the rivers of Vermont. Don't worry if the swells aren't your scene though, New England offers up "wicked cool" surf music year-round.

  • The Swingin' Surf Rock Shindig - Episode 22 "WITW 10: Illinois" Aired: Thursday, March 14, 2024

We take the Wayout Mobile to "The Land of Lincoln". The State of Illinois may not be every surfers first vacation choice but 63 miles of Lake Michigan coastline offer produce waves reaching 10 feet ( even taller than Robert Pershing Waldon, the world's tallest man born in Alton Illinois on February 22 1918). The state as a whole has been producing great surf and instro bands since the 60s. and bands like The Tiki Cowboys and Alewife are still keeping that tradition of quality today.

  • The Swingin' Surf Rock Shindig - Episode 21 "WITW 9: "England" Aired: Thursday, March 7, 2024

We raise the sails on the wayout mobile and head across the pond to the island of Great Britain. The ninth largest island in the world consists of Wales, Scotland, and England, the latter of which is where we turn our focus in this episode. You're never more than 75 miles from the coast anywhere in Jolly Old England. You'll be chuffed by the great surf offered up on the isle's rugged shores and gobsmacked by just how many fantastic surf and instro acts you'll find. Pour yourself a proper cup of tea, and let's take a gander!
