Alan Herrick
Alan is a tech guy, musician, record collector, and longtime radio programmer with a taste for music that tends to live outside the usual boundaries. He has been involved in independent and experimental music since the 1980s, including performing with Nux Vomica and Big City Orchestra and founding Auricular Records (store and label) in San Francisco with his wife Jenny in 1989.
His radio work spans more than 40 years producing the experimental music program (dis)PERSE Dispatch for DFM-RTV in Amsterdam, producing and hosting World Synesthesia Workshop on WHUS in Storrs, CT, where he explored new and alternative releases across genres, and participation in radio production and general mischief around Calfornia in Berkeley, San Francisco, Santa Cruz, Stanford, Los Altos Hills, Sonoma County and beyond.
On WAYO, Alan hosts Long-Period Transients, a late-night excursion through experimental, electronic, ambient, industrial, avant-garde, and other difficult-to-categorize sounds. Drawing from decades of listening and a collection of roughly 10,000 records, the show moves freely between new releases, overlooked recordings, established artists, and things that probably never had much chance of turning up on conventional radio.
Long-Period Transients airs Friday nights from midnight–2 a.m.
