Peter gets a big opportunity to DJ at a big ’60’s Theme Party in Washington, DC. There he has a very eye-opening experience dealing with a high level event and unpredictable politicians. Suffice it too say, Peter learned some valuable lessons.

With performances by Robert Berry, Steve Walsh, John Wetton, Kansas and other high profile Classic and Progressive Rockers - some of whom can’t be named because of contractual restrictions. Peter takes us on a tour of Texas Garage Rock from the mid-'60's. Texas produced some of the highest quality and most well known songs of the Garage Era. He explains how he convinced everyone that he was an expert on boats and why that can be a dangerous situation.
Peter interviews music historian, archivist, producer and musician, Alec Palao. Alec discusses his career as an archivist and his 5 Grammy nominations. Alec also talks about his friendship with famed record producer, Shel Talmy, and plays a number of Talmy’s landmark productions. Then they spotlight some of Alec’s favorite Garage Era tracks as well as a song from Alec’s own band.
Peter talks about the impact that the music and the musicians of Chicago had on the Garage Band scene of the 1960’s both in their hometown and throughout the country. Peter plays some of the great songs that came out of that city as well as telling the stories behind the bands that created the vibrant and exciting sounds that fueled Chicago’s music scene during this turbulent time.
Peter decides to take a trip to London via the magic portal to visit his friend, Ian Grinham, and have a garage band listening session. He makes a stop at the deli to pick up some of their great sandwiches and then travels to Ian’s garage where they listen to some fantastic Garage Rock from the ’60’s.
One fantastic song leads to another and, before you know it, the the long journey of “Let’s Live For Today” is told.
In this week’ show, Peter discusses two musical categories that were born in the ’60’s but were not necessarily named until years later. “Sunshine Pop” and the blending of soul, R&B and rock (often referred to as “Blue-Eyed Soul”) are explored. We get to hear some future stars and superstars in some of their early bands.
