P-P-R #51: Julius Eastman and Black History Month

It's Black History Month, and I knew I wanted to honor the late 20th century African American composer Julius Eastman, a wildly creative and provocative force in the world of contemporary classical music. He was defiantly himself, and in recognition of that, I played his 20-minute instrumental work "Evil Nigger" in its entirety on You're So Post-Post-Rock Right Now, This episode also features minimalist piano works by Steve Reich and Nico Muhly, plus a track by Sufjan Stevens and a reading of his recent editorial in The Washington Post, entitled "Stop repeating the heresy of declaring the United States 'a Christian nation.'
