CalZone's Record Geeks WAYO 4 9 2026 Special Guest Jim Spitznagel

This episode features Jim Spitznagel who you might recognize as a part time employee at the Bop Shop Records in Rochester. However, Jim's Record Geek earlier odyssey is a fascinating one.
Born and raised in Pittsburgh PA, Jim built and ran a record store called Jim's Records which would become the leading store for imports, punk, New Wave, and indie rock from the 70's through the early 2000s.

Born and raised in Pittsburgh PA, Jim built and ran a record store called Jim's Records which would become the leading store for imports, punk, New Wave, and indie rock from the 70's through the early 2000s.
Jim talks about the eccentric and exceptional radio and club scene of the early 60s - 80s when Pittsburgh had one of the most unusual regional music scenes in the US at that point in time. It's a great story and I was glad to capture it for WAYO.

Although Magic Records has recently migrated to the WFMU Give The Drummer Stream found on WFMU.ORG Sunday nights from 9pm -11pm. Record Geeks continues for two more episodes including this interview with Jim and my final episode on April 23rd when Rock Journalist Eli Enis , my son turns the tables and interviews me!

So Record Geekdom continues on WAYO for two more provocative and insightful episodes! If you love Records, and understand the obsessions and curiosities of record collectors, stick around for these final two installments!
