Music Therapy

We all find our outlets in different ways. Some people work out, others drink heavily. I get my weekly dose of therapy by playing some of my favorite music for you for two hours a week.

Tune in for an hour of indie-rock, indie-pop, and associated genres. Then it's emo f. If you're not familiar with either, we'll explore a variety of the styles that fit into those two genres, from quiet and folky to airy and atmospheric to loud and aggressive.

View weekly playlists, discuss the mood, and interact with me at the Music Therapy Facebook page: www.facebook.com/musictherapyWAYO

  • Music Therapy - October 18, 2016: Alphabetical (Part 2 of 2) Aired: Tuesday, October 18, 2016

This week, Music Therapy is taking you to school! I realized one week that a typical show consists of 24 to 28 songs. And there's 26 songs in the alphabet. So let's explore indie rock from A to Z. One song for each letter in the alphabet...even the tough ones!

  • Music Therapy - October 11, 2016: Clowns / Ennui (Part 1 of 2) Aired: Tuesday, October 11, 2016

Don't we have enough hate and fear in this world? I want to remind people that clowns, as a career and a calling, exist to bring happiness, joy, and amazement to the world. So let's stop fearing "spooky clowns." This week, we play music in clowns' honor, and then we explore the deep sense of boredom and ennui that must be driving people to obsess over scary clowns and spread the horribly offensive hoaxes that belittle our red-nosed friends.

  • Music Therapy - October 4, 2016 - Nostalgia Music (Part 1 of 2) Aired: Tuesday, October 4, 2016

I was scrounging through new music lately and wondering why I only wanted to listen to old music. Then a friend and I began talking about our formative years in music. From thence, this playlist was born. Many songs you know, a few you don't, from the late-80s and early-90s of my formative years of "alternative" rock. Enjoy!

  • Music Therapy - September 27, 2016: Autumnal (Part 1 of 2) Aired: Tuesday, September 27, 2016

There is a crispness to the air lately. The leaves are starting to gather in my yard. It's dark before I get home from work. It must be fall. And after the hot, humid summer we had this year, I am welcoming the season with open arms. Here's to Autumn!

  • Music Therapy - September 20, 2016: Superheroes (Part 1 of 2) Aired: Tuesday, September 20, 2016

I accomplished a major milestone recently, a true bucket-list item. So now I'm feeling like I can do anything. I could leap tall buildings. I could stop a moving train. I could confront my boss about that raise he's been promising. Life's too short to not be a superhero!

  • Music Therapy - September 13, 2016: Comfort Zone (Part 1 of 2) Aired: Tuesday, September 13, 2016

I must have been in a rut lately. Things are getting stale. So when this happens, I try to stray outside my comfort zone. These bands, too, stray outside their comfort zone by incorporating piano, strings, horns, harmonica...even an accordion in here. Listen to Music Therapy for a very eclectic set of rock this week!
