APPLICATION INSTRUCTIONS AND INFORMATIONPlease read the following carefully before filling out the application: About WAYO WAYO is a non-commercial low-power FM radio station in Rochester, NY, which started broadcasting at 104.3FM on January 4, 2016. We are an all-volunteer organization, with a focus on original local programming, mutual support of local businesses, and engagement with the Rochester arts and cultural community. WAYO’s mission is to provide expansive musical and cultural expression by emphasizing creativity, freedom, and diversity. Our vision for the station is that it will create engaging experiences for listeners by offering programs with wide-ranging and idiosyncratically curated music; original comedic, dramatic, and musical performance; interesting and relevant talk; and voices under-represented by other Rochester media. Show Requirements All programming on WAYO must comply with both Federal Communications Commission (FCC) regulations and WAYO station policy, which will be further explained during the training process. Here are some things to know before you apply: Your show can not be used for purposes of promotion or defamation. Applicants must be Rochester-based and primarily broadcast their shows live from the WAYO studio. Applicants with a similar show on another Rochester radio station may not apply. Programmer dues ($6-10/month) or annual fundraiser contribution (membership level) is strongly encouraged, but the inability to pay will not prevent you from having a show. Application Process + Next Steps WAYO processes show applications 2x yearly for “Spring/Summer” and “Fall/Winter” programming seasons. Applicants do not require any prior radio experience. Training will involve Group station orientation to go over station rules/expectations (2 hours) Shadowing an existing WAYO programmer (approx 2-4 weeks) Show kick-off under supervision of existing WAYO programmer (2-4 weeks) Evaluation period to confirm that the show is adhering to the submitted application and meeting all station guidelines and expectations (3 months) Applicants for the Spring/Summer 2025 programming season can expect to hear back from us starting in May 2025. If you have any other questions, please contact us at info@wayofm.org. Thank you for your interest in the station and we look forward to reviewing your proposal!
