Sara Haile Mariam is the drummer and vocalist of her band: Makeda! She also plays guitar and has also released a book of poetry: Our Place in the Skies. In part one of this two part interview we discuss transgressing modern stereotypes of the Rock and Roll genre and returning it to its spiritual, political, black femme roots. Sara also shares about her creative process and the story behind one of the songs on Makeda's "I'll Say It How I Want To" EP.
