I took a sharp turn from last week's darkness towards 'Beautiful Music', my take on the EZ Listening genre of the post war boom of the late 40's-mid 1970s. It was an era when Americans had more leisure time to relax and enjoy, additional expendable income to buy new HiFi and Stereo equipment, and musicians and record labels were able to experiment and push the boundaries of sound, as well as what 'popular music' could be. This is stuff dreams are made of, and I've admired and collected these records for years!
By now everybody who's anybody has seen 'Like a Complete Unknown', the Dylan Biopic Starring Timothy Chalamet and the guy from 'Fight Club'. All the kids are into Bobby Dylan again, and by kids I mean the 75+ year old seniors who have been packing the Little Theater matinees over the past few weeks! I was inspired to present a collection of covers from some of my favorite artists, and then the show de-evolved into some spirtual and free jazz, and nearly forgotten popular tunes of the last century. As Bob himself would say, 'When you've got nothing, you've got nothing to loose.'
Happy New Year from Magic Records!
