Uh, wow. One streak of missing an upload for this show and it drags on for about a couple of years? Sound Test has been active this entire time, live in Rochester every Friday at 10:00pm EST, but I kept on neglecting maintaining the archive - PERIOD. Which means I'm going to start archiving again. So if you're just popping in, this is a great way to see how the show is still pretty much one dork dweebing out about great video game music, chiptunes, and the demoscene. Enjoy, nerds.
Sound Test - WE GET SIGNAL (8/16/2019)
Aired: Friday, August 16, 2019
Sound Test 18 - Summer Electronic Bleeps
Aired: Friday, August 12, 2016
It's been so hot that I wanted to have that sweltering feeling into this week's show. More hard driving beeping noises, especially from racing games.
Some grooves from Turbo Out Run, Metal Gear Solid 2, Goto80, Danny Baranowsky, and more!
This show also features 10 minutes of me ranting about No Man's Sky and how I feel about the surge of open world video games and procedurally generated designs. If you want to hear some dweeb rant, then... I guess this is also the show for you?? YEAH!
Sound Test 17 - (8-5-16) ON THE FLY!
Aired: Friday, August 5, 2016
Winging it entirely with mostly electronic based vidya bleeps, with highlights including Chipzel, Dubmood, M | O | O | N in Hotline Miami, and more!
Sometimes you just have to make a playlist on the fly. Because we fly. So high. You know this.
Sound Test 15 - Final Fantasy
Aired: Friday, July 22, 2016
Few game series match the vibrant variety Final Fantasy has to offer, so it's only natural that Sound Test would eventually have an entire show on it! Nobuo Uetmatsu became a staple to defining the many themes and compositions that would live on for 30 years, and beautiful moments such as Terra searching for friends in Final Fantasy VI, Zidane finding meaning in his life through friends in Final Fantasy IX, and on a more comedic note: Chocobos!
Final Fantasy is also a staple of my gaming library since I was a kid, so expect me to dweeb out hardcore!!
Sound Test 14 - Here Comes a New Challenger!
Aired: Friday, July 15, 2016
Test your might! Sound Test will be brawling out music straight from fighting video games in honor of EVO 2016 - which FINALLY HAPPEN WITH MUCH HYPE. Go HungryBox! Tunes from all different Capcom, SNK, and other game series are highlighted on this show. Maybe one game from the year 20XX, where all movement is in the form of wave-dashing.
My dorkness was in true form as I juggled running the show and checking twitch highlights. Definitely a fun, albeit niche set! Check it out!!
Sound Test 13 - Back and Out of this World!
Aired: Friday, July 8, 2016
Protip: NEVER GET SICK! It's so good to be back on the air! Sound Test returns with Sci-Fi VGM tracks like being KNEE DEEP IN THE DEAD with Bobby Prince's Doom, Metroid Prime, and Mass Effect!
This set was a lot of fun to put together and established that I can definitely roll right back into being a dweeb live on the air.
Sound Test 12 - ＶＡＰＯＲＷＡＶＥ ＡＥＳＴＨＥＴＩＣＳ
Aired: Friday, June 17, 2016
sᴏᴜɴᴅ ᴛᴇsᴛ 199x ᴏɴ WAY☯-FM
Probably the hardest and most fun show I've put together because Vaporwave is an art and musical movement that hones in on the aesthetics and consumerism of the United States and the Postmodern characteristics of Japanese culture in the 1980s/1980s. This meant cherry picking out this kind of sound from all different eras of Gaming. I also lose my voice which is even more cray. There are some also some light Cyberpunk touches as well. I hope you enjoyed this, and check the additional Vaporwave set I put on the following hour!
BONUS GAME - Straight-Up Vaporwave
Aired: Friday, June 17, 2016
An Extra Hour of Sound Test allowed me to go from honing in on Video Game Music that had characteristics of Vaporwave to... Well. Just Vaporwave! This special show showcases マクロスMACROSS 82-99, Chuck Persons aka Oneohtrix Point Never, Saint Pepsi, and of course, the infamous Macintosh Plus. Stay ＡＥＳＴＨＥＴＩＣ.
Sound Test 11 - The Legend of Zelda
Aired: Friday, June 3, 2016
"Back then a mean kid came and played a strange song. It messed up this windmill!"
For the first time, Sound Test dedicates an entire show to a game series - The Legend of Zelda! Created by Shigeru Miyamoto and primarily composed by Nintendo veteran Koji Kondo, The Legend of Zelda has captivated us with a timeless story, enticing gameplay, and memorable music for 30 years.
Sound Test 9 - Super Nintendo
Aired: Friday, May 13, 2016
PLAY IT LOUD! Sound Test brings the Super Nintendo into the spoitlight! This 16-Bit hero uses a sample based approached compared to its synth-heavy rival: The Sega Genesis/Mega Drive. Listen in to iconic pieces from Chrono Trigger and Earthbound, veteran composers David Wise, Koji Kondo, and a few surprises as well! The SNES is perhaps my favorite console, so you'll definitely hear me dweebing out. A lot. What else do you expect at this point!
